RATIONALE

This skills programme has been developed in response to the Presidential Commission on the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). The transformative impact of 4IR on businesses and the economy is unprecedented, necessitating urgent preparation by companies as these technologies will shape our future more profoundly than any innovation this century. This revolution opens vast opportunities for Technopreneurs to establish themselves as small business owners in any ICT-related field, creating a critical need for learners equipped with the appropriate skills to become successful start-up entrepreneurs.

Recognized by the Department of Home Affairs as one of the critical and scarce skills, Technopreneurs—a blend of technology and entrepreneurship—are pivotal to the future economy. While no similar skills programmes have been approved by the QCTO, the MICT SETA has developed 10 4IR qualifications in the ICT sector and is developing 5 more, each creating pathways for individuals to thrive as Technopreneurs.

The socio-economic benefits of this programme are significant, offering the potential to establish start-up businesses within communities, promote local employment, and stimulate economic growth. Ideal candidates are individuals passionate about starting their own businesses, possessing the technical skills to address niche market needs.
